Volunteers from St. Bede’s enjoyed a wonderful day working on the Habitat for Humanity house on Saturday May 19th. Many thanks to the Men of Bede for their stellar turnout and to the Sisters of Bede for preparing and serving the lunch. The day was spent erecting the fire wall between the condo units and framing the main floor living space. While we did not resemble Amish barn raisers, our group of Episcopalian’s were surprisingly handy! Again, our deepest gratitude to all volunteers.
The day gained even more meaning once the group was introduced to Kashima Batts and her three children. The Batts family will move into the house upon completion and Kashima not only worked extremely hard but was also very grateful. Her two daughters, ages 15 and 11, along with her son, 8, joined her on site and helped out when it was appropriate. The family’s enthusiasm helped magnify the importance of Habitat and our efforts.
The next St. Bede’s workday is set for Saturday, June 16th. Please check you calendars to see if you can join us. All skill levels are welcome as a multitude of tasks are available and the Habitat supervisor has vast experience guiding volunteers through all phases of construction. Sign up and information is available in the Commons.
