St. Bede's Episcopal Church

Community Garden
St. Bede’s Community Garden started in 2009 with 3 raised beds, a handful of enthusiastic gardeners and a goal of providing fresh vegetables to Tucker Net Food Pantry. We now have 6 beds and plant tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, squash and basil. Each year we have provided the Tucker Net Food Pantry with over 200 pounds of fresh vegetables. We try to garden organically, using no insecticides, and water the garden by pumping water from the adjacent creek.

Basil is made into pesto sauce and sold to provide additional funds for new plants so that our Garden can be totally self-supporting. We added an herb garden in order to have other herbs to enjoy and share. As our garden grows so does our commitment to provide fresh food for those in need while giving us all a chance to enjoy the wonder and beauty of God’s gift of life. As Patricia Barrett wrote in The Sacred Garden “Connections with gardens, even small ones, even potted plants, can become windows to the inner life. The simple act of stopping and looking at the beauty around us can be prayer.”

Bring your garden tools on Saturday, April 22, at 9 am and join in the fun of planting the garden.

Taizé & Labyrinth Coming to St. Bede's Sunday May 7th

Taizé & Labyrinth Coming to St. Bede's Sunday May 7th
Beginning May 7, St. Bede's will offer a monthly one hour Taizé service and labyrinth walking on the first Sunday of each month at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall.

The worship of Taizé is marked by depth and simplicity, consisting of much singing along with significant periods of silent meditation.

If you are interested in assisting with this service, please contact Muriel Diguette or Tommie Thompson. There are several simple ways to make a significant contribution to this service for our broader community.

St. Bede's Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a small group that meets monthly for fellowship, knitting and crocheting. We meet on the 4th Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:00 pm to knit and crochet prayer shawls and scarves. All are welcome and we have friends who love to knit/crochet joining us! At the present time we gather at the home of Cheryl Murphy, location may vary.

In the words of Susan S. Jorgensen, co-author of Knitting into the Mystery, the gift of creating and giving away of shawls is an outreach of love and compassion. Below is one of her prayers:

Loving God, we give you thanks for the gift of our hands. Give us the grace to see our hands as you see them, as instruments of grace and life. May the knitting of our hands be the knitting of your heart. Use our hands, O God, to carry out your works of mercy and love. May the shawls our hands create bring blessing to those they wrap in love and healing to those upon whom they rest.

Bible Study
Bible study group meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Vestry Room. We follow the school year and take the summer off.  After opening prayer a light meal is served.  We are a self directed group and over the past several years have studied the four Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Genesis and Exodus.  This season we have concentrated on the Letters of Paul. Any Bible translation may be used and discussion is guided by St. Columba's Method:
  1. What is the passage saying?
  2. Why was it preserved?
  3. What does it mean to me today?
We close with Compline, group members alternating leading that service.  For more information please contact Cheryl Murphy (seamurph73 "at"
